Therapy helps you put situations in perspective, especially if the client-therapist relationship is collaborative. Therapy listens emphatically and nonjudgmentally where the client's growth in self-awareness and insight are the ultimate hope. Therapy helps you heal or find healing, whatever that feels like for you. Therapy has many looks similar to switching up an outfit. Therapy can be the idea of laying on a couch, delving in trauma, processing pain from an intimate relationship, navigating family dynamics, figuring out a career, establishing healthy boredom busters, or "coaching". Therapy is really an in depth conversation - it presents many ways. Therapy "should be" a safe place for you to be who you want and explore both yourself and the situations you are currently in or from the past.
Therapy can seem scary - you are baring your soul to someone you do not know, in fact that can be scary doing so to any human being. Therapy can drudge up past trauma or pain, which can cause nightmares, increase anxiety, and depression. Therapy is not a one size fits all, meaning sometimes you have to "try" different therapists before finding the one you vibe with. Guess what? That is normal and actually positive because you are operating in self-determination and self-advocacy. If you engage a therapy who ends up not resonating with you, PLEASE do not give up or allow it to tarnish your outlook on therapy/mental health care. Keep trying, you will find the therapist who connects with you.
Perspective is key!
Thank you for your time and please reach out for a 15-minute consultation if you want to explore further. Hopefully your therapy search is complete and we vibe.
